Family/ Owners
SCEA Vignobles Delong. Château Majoureau is a family property representing 35 hectares of vines planted exclusively in AOC terroir. Located south of the Gironde, near the medieval city of St. Macaire, the château has produced wine for 25 years.
Bernard Delong and his children, Emeline, Aurélie and Mathieu, offer you a complete selection of wines from Bordeaux: two red Bordeaux supérieur, one aged in oak and the other aged traditionally. These are joined by a light and fruity red Bordeaux, a rosé and a sparkling Bordeaux Brut. -

Terroir
Situated in the heart of AOC Côtes de Bordeaux Saint Macaire, the vineyard stretches across 38 hectares on hills overlooking the Garonne River. The diversity of the terroirs of the domaine (chalky-clay/gravel), as well as their exposition, largely contributes to the quality of the wines. Depending upon the parcels, all of the premium Bordeaux grape varieties have been planted: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon, Malbec, Sémillon and Muscadelle.
Here the Atlantic climate is brought about by the presence of the Garonne River and its tributary, and the southern exposure. Along the Garonne, the first slopes of the hillsides are fairly steep, followed by a succession of moderately steep slopes.

Vineyards
38 hectares. Over the vineyard, two types of densities exist side by side. There are vines with a high density (5,000 rootstock/ha). These are vines which are over 35 years old, or young plantations, as the vineyard is currently undergoing restructuring. The other parcels are of a medium density of 3,300 viness/ha, with an average age of 20 years.
The vineyard is cultivated with respect for the environment and the vine stocks. Pruning is guyot style, double or mixed, keeping just the right amount of buds to obtain between 50 and 55 hl/ha. Tilling varies depending on the year, but in the sloping plots or those with particularly vigorous vines, grass is grown between the vines to provide ground cover, limiting erosion.
In accordance with the Chambre d’Agriculture, Château Majoureau practices controlled phytosanitary treatments as a part of their sustainable methods. The Château tries to allow the leaves to grow as high as possible (40 to 50 cm above the stake) to promote better ripening.
